FASHION GIRLS FOR JAPAN event this Saturday!

FASHION GIRLS FOR JAPAN
60+ DESIGNERS/60+ ROLLING RACKS

In an effort to show support for the recent earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan, Fashion
Girls for Japan will host a special two-day designer sample sale to benefit Japan Societyʼs
Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, the Red Cross and the NYCʼs Japan Earthquake and
Tsunami Fund to be held at the Bowery Terrace in The Bowery Hotel -on Saturday April 2,
11am-7pm and Sunday April 3, 11am to 5pm.  100% of the proceeds from the sales will go
towards disaster relief efforts.

More than 60 New York-based designers have come together– including Alexander Wang,
Altuzzara, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Doo Ri, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon, VPL,
Zero Maria Cornejo and several accessories designers– and pledged to donate ʻone
rolling rackʼ of their clothing for this charity event. All items will be offered at 50% or more off
the retail price.

Along with Kikka Hanazawa (President of VPL) and Tomoko Ogura (Fashion
Director Womenʼs Co-op at Barneys New York), Fashion Girls for Japan was initially
conceived by Kyoko Kageyama (3.1 Philip Lim), who was in Japan when the 8.9 magnitude
earthquake and tsunami struck on March 11, 2011. With volunteers from Japanese-
American fashion community, the generous donations of New York designers, and special
support from fashion consultant Julie Gilhart, these members of the American fashion
industry aim to aid and rebuild hope for their Japanese colleagues and customers through
this special “60+ Designers/60+ Rolling Racks” event.

3.1 Philip Lim - Sequinned Silk Chiffon Blouse ($675)

Alexander McQueen - Britianna Leather Punk Box Clutch ($1,495)
This clutch is definitely an investment worth accessory.
Meredith Wendell - Patchwork circle drawstring leather tote.
OK so this bag is SOLD OUT at NET-A-PORTER.com but we love it so much that we have to put it here. The multi-color patchwork goes with anything in the wardrobe! A definite good investment too.
Chloe - Sequinned crepe t-shirt. ($2,005)
T-shirt never look so good in this color. Thanks for bringing pink back to the table.
Victoria Beckham - Cotton crepe-bell dress ($2,645)
OK we did not feature this dress because we are in love with it. It has more to do with the fact that it is SOLD OUT in NET-A-PORTER.com. Really? Victoria Beckham the next big fashion designer?
Prabal Guring - Maxi color-block cashmere dress ($ 895)
We have our eyes on him ever since he has been in the spotlight. This humble designer is no doubt one of our favorites.

Stella McCartney - Oversized denim top ($395)
Of course we have to feature McCartney. Being eco-friendly designers ourselves we totally relate to making cruelty-free clothes. We not only love her young free-spirited style but the price for her clothes are totally and absolutely reasonable.  Can't go wrong with McCartney.
This is no doubt our favorite piece.
Etro - Printed silk skirt. ($900)
We can spot the classic geometric Etro print by a mile away. And we love it. Reminds us of spring.

Our favorite vintage store in BK.

Brooklyn has been blessed with a procession of cool vintage stores. As the weather progresses to spring time, these stores have been mobbed with consumer who hunts for bargains and steals relentlessly. There are a lot of interesting stores off the Bedford L train but nothing beats this store that we love to go a lot. We have sold our clothes there and bought a plenty. We even donated our fabrics and old clothes at the donation shelve that they will give out to charity.

Beacon’s closet in Brooklyn is located on North 11th St, a short five minutes walk from Bedford ave L stop. This store is one of the biggest vintage store in BK and has one of the most variety for ladies clothing, branded or non-branded, vintage or used clothing. We also love that they have a vast variety of shoes and boots for ladies. The men’s department is sizable and just as comparable.

M V jagged by Martinez Valero. $21.95

Men's polo by Ralph Lauren. $18.95

Safari vintage. $18.95

Who wear it best?

Carmen Electra and Brooke Bruke both showed up in a leopard printed French Connection dress at UK style event.

Jaime King and Nicky Hilton too arrived at the event wearing the same label. Seems like the girls didn't mind it at all and laughed over it.

Kim and Nicole wore the same Marc Jacobs gown for two different magazine shoot. Both rocked it.

Front row celebrities at fashion week.

Fashion week is almost over with Paris wrapping up the last of tomorrow's show. We spotted many familiar faces in the front row dressed to the nine. Here are the people we find interesting to watch and totally deserve to be in the front row where the A-listers are.
Stella McCartney invited her closest friends to her fall 2011 runway show, including pal Liv Tyler and her father Paul McCartney

Following her "African butterfly pattern"-inspired L.A.M.B. runway show, Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale enjoyed her after-party.

Gossip Girl Leighton Meester (in Marc Jacobs) hit the V Magazine bash at New York’s Standard Hotel.

SJP and Rachel Bilson in Diane Von Furstenberg wearing the dresses by the designer herself.

Daisy Lowe at Zac Posen, Paris.

Model Elena Perminova in Viktor & Rolf show, Paris. Notice that her white tunic dress has 3 cuffs. Love it.

Katy Perry at Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Paris.

Jessica Stam at Fendi after party at Paris.

Alexa Chung attending the Paris Fall/winter Chanel runway. Love the pastel color of the dress. Always making a fashion statement with Alexa - even when she puts on a minimalist dress.

Maggie Q, Molly Sims, Fergie and Sean Patterson attend the Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2011 fashion show

x

Lisa Origliasso and Jessica Origliasso of The Veronicas attend the Sergio Davila Fall 2011 fashion show. One of our favorite looks. Black dress with red lips? Hell yes.

Are you going to The Village Voice's Choice Eats 4th Annual Tasting Event?

When asked by CNS News on how Americans can save money and free themselves out of debt, Tawra said on her website www.livingonadime.com that the first thing they should do is stop eating out. A survey in 2007 shows that an average person in America spends about 12.4% of their income on food purchases.  If that’s the case, how can middle class Americans afford to eat a healthy scrumptious meal without burning a hole in their wallet?

The answer is quite simple according to Cathy Erway. In her blog, www.noteatingoutinny,com, she writes about saving money by buying food that last and rediscovering the joy of simple home cooking. Cathy, who had not been eating out for 2 years now in New York, grows her own herbs that eventually leads to her own agriculture farming, growing vegetables and flowers on her own. It’s a great idea because not only she gets to save money from buying second-grade tomatoes from the grocery store which probably is not fresh by the time they get to you, but she also gets to eat the fruits at its best organic state and pesticide-free. How is that for money-saving and eating well?

Check out her post on the essentials ingredients you need to have for smart cooking here.

On March 29th, Cathy will be giving a demonstration at The Village Voice’s 4th annual tasting event at 69th Armory at 68 Lexington Ave. Read more about it here

This event features more than 50 restaurants and food from over 35 nations such as Cambodian, Russian and Vietnamese food. Ohhlala..did we hear Vietnamese food?

You can check out the participating restaurants here.

OUR PICK: Vivienve Westwood - Gold Label AW 2011-12

World Wide Woman.

Vivienne Westwood showed yet another incredible modern punk rock collection at Paris Fashion week yesterday. She labeled the collection World Wide Woman and here is what she's got to say about her inspiration behind the collection.

"Fashion is global, influence comes from everywhere in the world. You can wear anything in our part of the world. Anything goes.

But don’t let the world get smaller: World Wide Woman cultivates her values for the sake of our planet and all who live on her. We hope she is growing more powerful and in numbers, in touch with the wonder of reality, controlling her man through the fire of her Imagination and vision.

Traditionally and in general, men have been the pioneers, women the civilizers; they have had vast responsibility in educating their children, they are the center of the home, bringing sweetness and delight, stability and refinement; they are the guardians of culture, most importantly in their creation of the salon (Napoleon agreed to ennoble his generals on condition that their wives opened a salon). It is women who forge the bonds of society.

For the woman who is interested in fashion, she dresses to look important. This depends on taking care on what suits her; the braver she is, the easier and the more beautiful is the woman who makes the dress her own. I expect it is like riding a horse who is yours. Together you dream of open spaces and a world big enough for love and a way to feel free and noble and playful.

Oh yes, walk on a glittering runway with boots made of gold paillettes which dazzle the eyes so you seem to walk on air."

Well, we definitely agree that woman should control her man through the fire of her imagination.
Here's our pick.

Love the gold sequin backpack.

The  color and draping around the shoulder is fabulous. Guess we will be looking at a lot of big shoulder this season.

The proportion of the long-sleeve printed top goes so well with the length of the skirt - it makes the outfit look so well put together. Only a genius would've thought of that.

Love the shoulders.

The patch of gold/black fabric that looks very eastern-oriented brings a fresh hint to the table.

Red riding hood and her cape is back this season.

Here is our least fav. pieces.

We can tell where this punk minnie-mouse look is going but the color of red and white print just doesn't cut it. Not to mention the two strand of feather sticking behind her shoulder.

There's nothing wrong with this look. It's just that we have seen the tartan look too many times before.

We have to say one thing though - the make-up is pretty intense. We love it when designers love to complete the look with awesome state-of-the-art makeup.
