When asked by CNS News on how Americans can save money and free themselves out of debt, Tawra said on her website www.livingonadime.com that the first thing they should do is stop eating out. A survey in 2007 shows that an average person in America spends about 12.4% of their income on food purchases. If that’s the case, how can middle class Americans afford to eat a healthy scrumptious meal without burning a hole in their wallet?
The answer is quite simple according to Cathy Erway. In her blog, www.noteatingoutinny,com, she writes about saving money by buying food that last and rediscovering the joy of simple home cooking. Cathy, who had not been eating out for 2 years now in New York, grows her own herbs that eventually leads to her own agriculture farming, growing vegetables and flowers on her own. It’s a great idea because not only she gets to save money from buying second-grade tomatoes from the grocery store which probably is not fresh by the time they get to you, but she also gets to eat the fruits at its best organic state and pesticide-free. How is that for money-saving and eating well?
Check out her post on the essentials ingredients you need to have for smart cooking here.
On March 29th, Cathy will be giving a demonstration at The Village Voice’s 4th annual tasting event at 69th Armory at 68 Lexington Ave. Read more about it here
